An active yacht racing calendar operates year round in Darwin. The Dry Season Series is conducted by the Darwin Sailing Club, and comprises and offshore and inshore series during May - October. The Wet Season Series is a harbour series conducted by the Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Association from November - April.
Darwin Sailing Club conducts a dry season racing program which includes:
- Division 1 (Monohull keelboats and trailables with a performance handicap > 800),
- Division 4 (Monohull keelboats and trailables with a performance handicap 700-800) and
- Division 5, (Monohull keelboats and trailables with a cruising/performance handicap <700).
The DSC program includes a blue water offshore series and and inshore harbour series, plus a range of feature events. DSC events are conducted under the current Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) of the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) and the regulations of Yachting Australia (YA). The Australian Measurement System is the primary handicapping system used. Saftety requirements differ for each series.

The Dinah Beach Cruising Yacht Association runs a race series each Wet Season in Darwin Harbour, conducted under the International Rules for the Prevention of Collision at Sea.
